SUDS COMPLIANCE & BREEAM CREDITS
Sustainable drainage standards
The UK Government has established a set of robust guidelines called the Sustainable Drainage Standards. These regulations are to ensure surfaces are designed and built to reduce flood risk and manage drainage in a way that is safe and responsible. Doveshill Resin are fully SuDS compliant.
How is a resin bound surface SuDS compliant?
Resin bound surfacing provides a water-permeable surface when laid on an open grade binder asphalt. The resin bound mixture has open voids across the surface, allowing air to flow freely and surface water to filter through the structure, making it an ideal permeable system for driveways, paths, tree pits and areas prone to standing water, making it SuDs compliant.
What is the difference between resin bound surfacing and resin bonded surfacing?
By contrast, resin bonded surfacing is non-permeable and must be laid on a non-porous fine wearing course asphalt or concrete base. With resin bonded surfacing, soakaways and ACO drains must be installed to prevent run-off which could lead to flooding.
BREEAM credits for sustainable drainage
BREEAM is a detailed method used to assess sustainability of building materials and techniques. Doveshill Resin can attain three BREEAM credits for its role in reducing pollution:
Pol 03 Surface water run-off: To avoid, reduce and delay the discharge of rainfall to public sewers and watercourses, thereby minimising the risk and impact of localised flooding on and off site, watercourse pollution and other environmental damage.
1 credit: Surface water run-off
2 credits: Minimising watercourse pollution, a porous surfaces can capture contaminants including oils and heavy metal.
